When you have restored a Cowes Torquay “Classic” and have entered it this years race, in the Historic Class, then you have to get some training in!. To make this point COPC club member Robin Ward, who will be racing the newly restored Bertram 31 “THUNDERSTREAK” , has also purchased and restored another ex Sopwith boat….a Kevlar Avenger 21 no less with 150 hp of Mercury hanging off the stern…so if your out in the Solent and an Avenger in Sopwiths distinctive Blue and white livery appears driven in anger give it plenty of room as Robin will be building up his “muscles” for the task ahead!….and here she is fresh from restoration. We present “THUNDERCLAP”!
If you love boats and you like books on boats then an absolute must buy is Charles Lawrence’s new masterpiece which will have pride of place on many a coffee table over the next few months!…..The History of Fairey encompasses the world as it was before the technology onslaught of the mid ’70’s and delves not just into the Fairey family but the competitors and the race breeding…it is superb! and a bargain at £55 plus p+p

Not exactly the RYS line but a major victory for the Cowes Torquay Cowes organisers for when August’s race start’s it will be off EGYPT POINT…a tremendous feat to have this granted and we applaud all the hard working team behind this years race for pulling off such a coup…..lets hope that common sense prevails with spectating craft and I am sure there will be many volunteer safety boats now that the long haul to North Head Buoy has been nullified…..roll on the race!
