Hilary Chitty

It is with deep regret that we have to report the passing of Hilary Chitty, a very sad day for anyone who grew up with the sport in the 1960’s. Without doubt Hilary along with her late husband John were the driving force behind possibly the most successful club in the offshore world the Offshore Powerboat Club. The Chitty team were the brains and management behind many of the top races of the day and will forever be remembered for the 1972 London Monte Carlo which without their meticulous planning would not have taken place.

Hilary will also be fondly remembered for some magnificent photographs of the sport which filled the magazines of the day…a great loss to the sport and to all who knew her.

Funeral details will be advised when known.

Whats the connection?

1962   The boat “Lindsay Chase”  and  2014  a Day tripper for sale in Looe for £18.000 (courtsey of John Trafford)…..  give up?  Both designed and built by Gerald Pearn Boatbuilders Looe……

Hunt for Seahunter

Lets start the new year with a request for help in tracking down one of these beauties! Built by our very own John Iddon and raced many times in the late 60’s the Seahunter range were extremely well built capable fast cruisers….we know where the original Seahunter is but the owner won’t sell but there were more, MOODY BLUE was powered by a Holman Moody V8 Ford, JUSTIN THYME was a Mk2 and BMW powered.

Despite searching most of the South Coast none of the examples can be found unless you know differently…Contact us immediately if you know the location of any Seahunter boat.
